Perched on a palm-fringed island, Moremi Crossing Camp overlooks the Boro River and Chief’s Island in the Moremi Game Reserve.

Designed to embrace the ebb and flow of the Okavango Delta, this camp isn’t just in the wilderness; it practically floats on it. 

But this isn’t just any Delta hideaway; it shares its heritage with one of Botswana’s first historic outposts.

Founded by Mike Gunn, Gunn’s Camp operated for decades, establishing itself as one of the Delta’s first traditional safari camps.

Once accessed as often by motorboat as by plane from Maun in the 1980s, it ran week-long ‘fitness in the wilderness’ courses which, amongst other things, taught you how to punt your own mokoro.

During these early expeditions, visitors began to exchange rifles for cameras, laying the groundwork for Botswana’s world-famous photo safari industry.

Today, Moremi Crossing keeps that spirit alive with its low-impact living and high-impact experiences.

Camp is a rustic-luxe retreat with airy Meru-style tents on raised wooden decks for dreamy views over the Boro River.

Picture outdoor showers, flickering lanterns, and a central firepit where stories flow as freely as the evening drinks.

The main area is shaped like a crescent moon, comprising several decks that provide endless Okavango Delta views because let’s face it — this landscape deserves to be admired from every angle.

Watch elephants stroll past while sipping your morning coffee.

Experience thrilling encounters with leopards and lions during off-road game drives in the Gunn’s Private Concession or embark on a sunset cruise and slow down.

Hear the whisper of papyrus reeds swaying in the breeze.

Watch for the flash of a malachite kingfisher darting across the water.

Or head out on a walking safari to quick your pulse and track animals on foot with expert guides who read the land like an ancient script. 

One of the larger Okavango Delta camps, laidback Moremi Crossing, has a sociable crescent-shaped main area perched on stilts and huge decks for fantastic views of passing elephants and red lechwe.

Sitting along Ntswi Island’s riverine forest of magnificent palms and ancient trees (home to Pel’s fishing owls), each tent has floodplain views.

The 14 Tented Suites, 1 Family Suite and 1 Honeymoon Tent all have:

Elevated, private viewing deck with outside seating.

Spacious lounge areas with armchairs, ceiling fan, tea and coffee facility, charging station (USB), writing desk, open hanging space and shelving for clothes.

En-suite, flushing toilet, double vanity basins, outdoor shower, hot and cold-water supply.

Dining at Moremi Crossing Botswana

Light breakfast around the fire before morning activity, tea and coffee bush break, brunch afterwards, high tea before each afternoon activity with snacks and sundowners, dinner on return.

All menus and mealtimes accommodate sightings.

Communal dining is standard, with indoor and outdoor dining options.

A water fountain, soft drinks, local beers, and spirits, plus a selection of South African red, white

and sparkling wines are included.

Specific wines and spirits can be requested in advance (at an extra cost).
